The electric revolution is here, and it’s driving us towards a sustainable future. More and more people are embracing electric vehicles (EVs) not only for their day-to-day commutes but also for long-distance travel. However, some lingering questions remain: Can you rely on an EV for an extended road trip? Is the charging infrastructure widespread and efficient enough? What if things don’t go quite as planned?
These are the questions we’re setting out to answer on our ambitious road trip that will take us from the United Kingdom to the northernmost tip of mainland Europe and back again. We’ll be covering a distance of over 8,000 kilometres in three weeks, demonstrating the potential and reliability of electric vehicles in real-world conditions.
Our journey will start in London, from where we’ll cross the English Channel and travel through France, Belgium, and Germany. Our journey will then take us to Denmark, then Sweden, and Finland, all the way up to North Cape in Norway. After reaching this northernmost point, we’ll start our journey back south through Norway, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands and finally back to London. We’ll be traversing mountains, valleys, bustling cities, quaint towns, and untouched landscapes, demonstrating the range and versatility of our EV.
For this trip we’ll be using a Tesla Model 3 from 2020 with over 30,000 miles already on the clock. None of your showroom-fresh stuff for this one!
There will be NO advanced planning of charging until the day itself. When we get in the car each morning we’ll see what’s around and think about our charging stops for the day, utilising the numerous charging points across Europe. We’re hoping to show that the charging infrastructure is now so widespread that range anxiety – the fear of running out of battery power before reaching a charging station – is a thing of the past. However, we’re going to keep it real and show you what happens if things don’t go quite as planned.
Just because the chargers are widespread, doesn’t mean they’re all working and available at any given moment.
If we encounter a problem, we won’t shy away from it. Instead, we’ll document the situation and the solution, showcasing the reality of EV travel. This trip isn’t just about showcasing the ideal journey, but also demonstrating how to tackle any challenges that might arise, giving prospective EV owners a true picture of what to expect.
Our journey is also about showcasing the joy of a zero-emission road trip. Imagine crossing countries and continents, knowing that your adventure isn’t contributing to air pollution or climate change. It’s a win-win situation – you get to enjoy the freedom and thrill of the open road, while also playing your part in preserving the environment.
Through our journey, we hope to inspire and encourage others to consider EVs as their next vehicle choice. This isn’t just a road trip; it’s a real-life demo of what electric vehicles can do. We’re stepping into the future of transportation, and we invite you to come along for the ride.
So, join us on this grand adventure as we push boundaries and dispel myths around electric vehicles. Follow our journey, share our experiences, and let’s drive into a sustainable future together.
